A Fleeting Memorial

Embroidery on fabric

2015 ~ 2016

Suicide is usually associated with morbid themes. Yet, I’ve always found voluntary drowning to be a calculated form of suicide - no mess or any sign of a struggle is left as you gradually dissolve into the liquid environment.

Water becomes a separate realm, where movements are slower, the world is shut out and the death is eerily quiet. Inspired by the motif of languid, drowning female figures in works of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood,

A Fleeting Memorial is my personal depiction of that state.
